Developing Your Master's E-Portfolio: An Instructional Module

The master's project.

Topic? I started off with the idea to create an instructional module that would teach  my colleagues at Kalama Intermediate to use Google documents.

New Project - Change in setting

Last year, schools were closed for 17 days due to furloughs, morale was low, everything was squeezed into less time, and it was not clear what the future held. Teachers would not have been willing to participate in the project I had been working toward so I had to change course. I was fortunate to have an opportunity to become a teaching assistant for the new OTEC 2010 cohort in the Fall of 2010, and in the process, it was suggested that I do a project on the master's e-portfolio. So, my new problem statement:

The purpose of this instructional design project is to develop and evaluate an instructional module to assist online students to produce the required electronic portfolio in partial fulfillment of their Master's of Education in Educational Technology in the Department of Educational Technology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
I appreciate that the two final courses facilitated our work on the project. In 687, we worked on annotated bibliographies, idea papers, learning contracts, and IRB approvals. It was then time for us to develop our projects. Then in 690, the work was divided into three phases, research workshops, writers' workshops, presentation workshops, and portfolio and Scholarspace and e-portfolio development.

It is safe to say that almost all the design and development, and many of the management and evaluation AECT standards were applied over the course of the two semesters. Feedback was provided through the establishment of a Critical Friends Group, who commented on our submissions on the class Google site. Our instructors also used the site to provide detailed comments and support, all of which was incorporated into my final products. It was also beneficial to present before the larger ETEC/OTEC group at each point. This provided an opportunity to see the range of projects and offer feedback to anyone ready to graduate. Upon returning in the spring, it was time to implement our projects. My experiences are documented in the pieces below and also discussed in the TCC presentation and final master's thesis. The link to my project is http://202315622710195767.weebly.com/ and the password is OTEC in upper case.

The pieces related to the preparation and development of the final project are attached or linked below, and the final documents related to the presentation of the project are found on the TCC presentation page.

Feedback from critical friends and instructors. Instructors also provided one-on-one consults on the project, especially helpful for IRB approval.
